QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING:

Werner Walcher is President of Fresh From The Yukon Inc. 
He has a strong sense of the North and is very comfortable and experienced in working outdoors, especially in winter. He is keen to present stories from a Northern perspective and is very attentive to details and logistics.

Werner is fluently in English/German, has a Class 4 and Class 3 driver license with air endorsement and a clean driver abstract, First Aid with CPR and CO2, and is a volunteer firefighter.

Beside working on his own productions, Werner is assisting production companies and broadcasters shooting their projects in the Yukon. His local knowledge as scout and location manager / Aufnahmeleiter is precious for productions from outside the Yukon. 2009 Werner worked as Aufnahmeleiter / Loaction Manager for the ZDF production "Traumland Kanada" and in 2010 Werner is involved in pre-production again with ZDF as well as ZDF New York, Spiegel TV and Appartment 11.

Werner works as freelance cinematographer, and has been shooting for CBC, BBC, ZDF, Spiegel TV, NNBY and other broadcasters and production companies from the U.S. and Europe. His own documentaries have been broadcast on OMNI.1, APTN, CBC North and CBC Country Canada.

In 2008, Werner was the Yukon Field producer for Kids’ CBC, producing five Yukon segments for Kids Across Canada in conjunction with the Whitehorse CBC TV crew. 

Werner is working on new ideas, including two documentaries: Herschel Island with the support of the NFB, and Ben-My-Chree with the support of the Yukon Filmmaker’s Fund.
